Short answer
Battery savers on Xiaomi, Samsung and similar phones close apps in the background, which stops location and alerts. On the child's phone, give SAFE Child an unrestricted battery setting, turn on auto-start, lock it in Recents on Xiaomi, and remove it from sleeping apps on Samsung. The Settings and permissions screen in SAFE Child walks you through each step.
Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO (MIUI or HyperOS)
- 1Settings, then Apps, then Manage apps, then SAFE Child.
- 2Turn on Autostart.
- 3Battery saver: choose No restrictions.
- 4Open Recents, then long-press the SAFE Child card (or swipe it down) and tap the lock icon.
- 5Avoid "Clear all" in Recents. If the accessibility service was turned off, turn it on again from the child app.
Samsung (One UI)
- 1Settings, then Apps, then SAFE Child, then Battery: choose Unrestricted.
- 2Settings, then Battery (or Battery and device care), then Background usage limits.
- 3Remove SAFE Child from Sleeping apps and Deep sleeping apps, and add it to Never sleeping apps.
- 4Turn off "Put unused apps to sleep".
Huawei, Honor, Oppo, Realme and vivo
- Huawei and Honor: Settings, Battery, App launch, SAFE Child: turn off automatic management and allow auto-launch, secondary launch and running in background.
- Oppo and Realme: app info for SAFE Child, Battery usage: allow background activity and auto launch.
- vivo: Settings, Battery, background power consumption: allow SAFE Child.
- Menu names change between versions. If you can't find one, search for the app name in Settings.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if it worked?
Lock the child's phone for an hour, then check the last activity time in SAFE Parent. It should keep updating.
Do I have to repeat this after an update?
Sometimes. A big system update can reset battery settings, so check the Settings and permissions screen again.
Does this drain the battery?
Battery use goes up slightly because the app is allowed to work. Turn on the low-battery alert to know before the phone dies.
