Short answer
An SOS button lets your child send you an instant alert with their location when they are lost, scared or in danger. With SAFE, the alert reaches the parent's phone right away with the child's location, and a short video can be recorded and shared by link. Android's built-in Emergency SOS is mainly for calling emergency services.
When should my child press it?
- They are lost and can't find you or a trusted adult.
- Someone is following them or trying to take them somewhere.
- They are hurt or feel unsafe.
- Explain that it is not for jokes, and that you will never be angry if they press it when scared.
How SOS works in SAFE
- 1Your child presses the SOS button in SAFE Child.
- 2You get an emergency alert on SAFE Parent right away, with your child's location on the map.
- 3A short SOS video can be recorded and shared by link, for example with family members.
- 4Practice once at home together, so your child knows exactly what to do.
Android's built-in Emergency SOS
Many Android phones have Emergency SOS in Settings, under Safety and emergency: pressing the power or side key several times quickly calls emergency services, and some phones can also text your location to emergency contacts. Turn it on too. It complements a parent alert, it doesn't replace it.
